Documentary Credit and Application of UCP 600


Introduction

This course consists of 12 hours of online instructions and training in documentary credits and UCP 600. Its aim is to provide a firm foundation in the operation of documentary credits and the application of the UCP 600 rules.


Course Objectives:

• To understand the operation of documentary credits, be familiar with the terms and conditions of documentary credits and understand the roles of the parties involved.
• To be familiar with the documents that are presented under documentary credits and understand the provisions of UCP that governs the data that can appear in the documents.
• To be able to apply for a documentary credit, the presentation of documents, settlement of a credit and checking of documents for compliance.


Topics Covered:

DC ESSENTIALS
It provides an overview of the operation of international trade and examines the operation of documentary credits in detail. On completing this module, you should understand the operation of documentary credits, be familiar with the terms and conditions of documentary credits and understand the roles of the parties involved.

Introduction - This lesson outlines the different methods of settlement available in international trade, examines the function of documentary credits and introduces the rules and standards that govern their operation.
DC Cycle Overview - This lesson provides a step-by-step overview of the operation of documentary credits indicating how the parties involved interact with one another within the DC cycle
Issuing a DC - This lesson examines the process involved in issuing a documentary credit; from initial purchase order and completion of the DC application, to internal review by issuing bank, and issuance of the documentary credit.
Advising bank handling of DC - This lesson outlines the role and responsibilities of an advising bank and examines the terms and conditions of the credit an advising bank should review if carrying out a workability review.
Beneficiary review of DC and presentation - This lesson examines the issues that the beneficiary should consider in order to ensure correct performance under a documentary credit.
Nominated bank handling of documents - This lesson examines the role of the nominated bank and how settlement may be made under credits made available with the nominated bank by sight payment, deferred payment, acceptance and negotiation.
Issuing Bank undertaking - This lesson examines the issuing bank’s undertaking under a documentary credit and outlines the actions the bank takes in case of complying and non-complying presentations.

Commercial Invoice - This lesson outlines the function of a commercial invoice and examines the provisions of UCP that relate to commercial invoices when part of a presentation under a documentary credit.
Bill of Lading - This lesson outlines the function of a bill of lading and examines the provisions of UCP that relate to bills of lading when part of a presentation under a documentary credit.
Non-negotiable sea waybill - This lesson outlines the function of a non-negotiable sea waybill and examines the provisions of UCP that relate to sea waybills when part of a presentation under a documentary credit.
Charter party bill of lading - This lesson outlines the function of a charter party bill of lading and examines the provisions of UCP that relate to charter party bills of lading when part of a presentation under a documentary credit.
Combined transport document - This lesson outlines the function of a combined transport document and examines the provisions of UCP that relate to combined transport documents when part of a presentation under a documentary credit
Air transport document - T his lesson outlines the function of an air transport document and examines the provisions of UCP that relate to air transport documents when part of a presentation under a documentary credit.
Road, rail and inland waterway - This lesson outlines the function of road, rail and inland waterway transport documents and examines the provisions of UCP that relate to them when part of a presentation under a documentary credit.
Courier and post receipts - This lesson outlines the function of courier and post receipts and examines the provisions of UCP that relate to them when part of a presentation under a documentary credit.
General provisions for transport document - This lesson examines the provisions of UCP 600 that are common to all transport documents presented under documentary credits.
Insurance documents - This lesson outlines the function of insurance documents and examines the provisions of UCP that relate to them when part of a presentation under a documentary credit.

Case Studies
The case studies module consists of 5 interactive case studies. These case studies cover key aspects of documentary credit work including applying for a documentary credit, the presentation of documents, settlement of a credit and checking of documents for compliance.

Content
Completion of DC application - In this case study you work with an importing company and are applying for the issuance of a documentary credit.
Beneficiary review of DC - In this case study you work with an exporting company that must present documents under a documentary credit.
Document checking 1 - In this case study you work in a nominated bank and must check documents presented under a documentary credit.
Document checking 2 - In this case study you work in a confirming bank and must check documents presented under a documentary credit.
Document checking 3 - In this case study you work in an issuing bank and must check documents presented under a documentary credit.

Assessment

The 'Assessment' tests if you understand the operation of documentary credits and can correctly apply the provisions of UCP 600.
You will be presented with a series of multiple choice questions randomly selected from a database of questions.

On completion of the assessment we will forward you an ICC Certificate of Achievement indicating the score that you achieve.

We record your first 3 attempts of the assessment. Your Certificate will indicate the highest score that you achieve in these first 3 attempts.
